Reem Island – a vision shared by the three developers – offers the unique combination of a vibrant, urban metropolis and a relaxing getaway that only a private island can embody. Spread across 6.5 million square meters, the development holds the distinction of being the largest in Abu Dhabi mainland. It is also the first development of its kind in the region to be executed on a natural island.
Tamouh is responsible for developing 60 per cent of Reem Island, while Sorouh and Reem Investments are responsible for developing 20 per cent each.
Less than a kilometre away from downtown Abu Dhabi and only 20 minutes from the capital’s international airport, Reem Island is a world-class, waterfront, lifestyle development that will enhance Abu Dhabi’s role as the country’s capital and a tourist destination to contend with.
The mammoth development will include purpose-built spaces for business, commercial and residential areas, turning the island into a luxurious ‘city within a city’. Facilities such as schools, golden beaches, mosques, lush landscapes, shopping malls, recreational centres, health care facilities, world-class infrastructure and commercial space will make it ‘the’ place to live, work and relax.
Reem Island will be easily accessible via nine bridges that will link it to Abu Dhabi, Sowwah Island and Saadiyat Island. State-of-the-art light rail transit systems such as the tram will operate across the island and Metro and fast train facilities will be available.
In order to keep waste of natural resources to a minimum, many services on the island will be centralized including a central laundry, centralized natural gas network and an automated vacuum waste collection system, which is to be the biggest in the world. A standardized lighting system will be applied across the island; it will feature LED lighting, which has been proven environmentally to be the most friendly and energy-efficient system.
Technology is at the heart of Reem Island. From smart home technologies that make controlling temperature, lighting, security measures and leisure features easy no matter where you are in the world, to Wi-Max internet access across the island, Reem Island will have the latest in advanced lifestyle-enhancing technologies.
With its incomparable facilities and features, it’s not surprising that some of the world’s biggest names have chosen Reem Island as their home. The Paris-Sorbonne University has already opened its doors and The Four Seasons is already under construction.
The ambitious Reem Island project broke ground in 2006 and it is estimated that the project, which will be pursued in phases, will only be entirely complete in 2023, in line with Abu Dhabi’s Urban Planning Council plan 2030.
When complete, Reem Island will have a total built-up area of 110 million sq ft and will serve as home to over 200,000 residents.
The first phase of Tamouh – Marina Square, and Sorouh’s Sun and Sky Towers will be handed over within the coming few months and will set the benchmark for quality, service and lifestyle.
In all of the above, Bunya is playing an active role in supporting the developers’ vision of building a community and development that supports a premium lifestyle in Abu Dhabi.
